Construction Updates & Community Announcements

We are very pleased to inform you that the progress at the Gaslight District Condominiums has continued to move forward smoothly as Melloul-Blamey’s construction team adjusted quickly to the COVID-19 health and safety procedures.

If you drive past your future home, you’ll notice that our tower crane has been erected and that foundations and the studio walls are completed on Tower 1 – Building G. Tower 2 – Building F foundations and studio walls will be finished over the next few weeks. We are excited to announce that precast is starting next week and we are still on schedule to have the entire podium parking structure complete for the end of this year with the slab-on-grade for the basement being poured this week. Electrical and mechanical continue to forge ahead with the hydro vault and transformer already installed for Tower 1-Building G. All underground piping is complete for Tower 1 and Tower 2 is over 50% complete. With all site servicing finished as well, we are very pleased with the progress on site.

Our crane isn’t the only milestone achieved within the last month. There have also been several accolades won by the Gaslight District and the businesses that operate within our community!

HIP Developments was proud to take home both the Best Re-urbanization Project for the Gaslight District itself and Most Outstanding Living Space Award for the Gaslight Condominium’s terrace from the Waterloo Region Home Builders Association Awards. After the long stretch of hot weather last month, we look forward to seeing our residents use this elaborate and expansive space upon completion.

Additionally, our neighbours at Foundry Brewery took home a gold medal for the best German-Style Wheat Beer from the Canadian Brewing Awards. Brewmaster, Geoff Wiseman, was touched by this award as he named the favoured flavour after his newborn daughter, Aurelia.

You can order Beautiful Aurelia and many other delicious craft brews from their website foundrybrewing.ca or stop by the popular restaurant, Foundry Tavern.

The community has made this European-inspired courtyard patio their main hangout spot for the summer with their tasty Hardwater cocktails and extensive Brunch menu.

The Tapestry Hall team, notably Chef Drew Ellerby, has been overwhelmed by the positive feedback for his dishes and have used this momentum to inspire his creations for the soon-to-launch Gaslight District independent grocer and meal delivery service, The New Galt Market.

As our district continues to grow in businesses and buildings, construction in the adjacent historical building has commenced for Energy+ who plans to move in their 70+ employees into their office space in May of 2022. The building envelope will begin first to upgrade the masonry, roof and windows to compliment the rest of our beautiful restoration projects in our neighbourhood. As you can see, the residential towers, commercial spaces and courtyard are beginning to collectively take shape. Each month we are a little closer to completing the vision of this thriving, energetic community.
